Staying Alive
Carla’s son Adam took his own life, an event that has profoundly affected her and her outlook on life. It highlighted the fragility of life, caused her to withdraw– at least to some extent—and to feel mortal. Following a stint in municipal politics, she’s turned to writing and business development. She established the Adam Meyer Memorial Scholarship to honour her son and help others.
I’ve always pictured Carla as being strong and resolute, no matter what life throws at her. Thus, the idea of her standing, face pointing upward at the sky, and defiantly confronting the rain. It evokes a feeling of perseverance (her against the elements) and perhaps of being cleansed.
